Balayage is a technique where the lightener is swept onto the hair and can be placed right at the root or just on the ends of the strands. The finished look is a lived in, subtle or dimensional blonde with customizable placement that brings your best features. Highlights are placed right at the root and have more concentration of blonde, giving a more "all over" blonde look. They're great for clients trying to disguise some greys or wanting a more uniform looking color.
You can use purple shampoo to fight those brassy tones when they inevitably start to peek through once your toner has faded. Purple shampoo, however, does not replace or do the same thing as a toner and purely acts as a neutralizer instead of a deposit of custom pigments to enhance the tone you're looking for. Purple shampoo also does NOT replace your daily shampoo; it is an add on to your shower routine and should be used as a second shampoo after your normal shampoo.
Refreshing your toner makes a world of difference between appointments. Ever wonder why your hair doesn't look the "same" a few weeks after your hair appointment? Toner only lasts about 6 weeks depending on your hair care routine. Coming for a refresh every 6-8 weeks makes your hair shinier and gives it the same look as when you first had it done. It's really a toner that makes a blonde, not the lightener.
Wash your hair the day before your event and don't over do it with hair products. Your hair should be smooth and frizz free. Remember to wear something that buttons up or ties up so you dont disturb any of your style once you change into your final look for the event.
